The programme is designed to equip students with the theoretical grounding and methodological expertise necessary to analyse complex social phenomena using both traditional sociological tools and cutting-edge computational techniques. In doing so, it bridges a significant gap between academic training in the social sciences and the data literacy increasingly required in government, policy institutions, NGOs, and the private sector across Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the Asia-Pacific region.
The MSoDA builds on the Department’s established strengths in social policy, cultural sociology, and inequality studies, as well as its growing engagement with computational social science.

課程致力為學生提供堅實的理論基礎與方法論專業知識，使他們能夠融合傳統社會學工具與先進計算技術，深入剖析複雜的社會現象。藉此，課程有效彌補了社會科學學術訓練與香港、中國內地及亞太地區公私營機構對數據分析專才日益殷切的需求。MSoDA奠基於本系在社會政策、文化社會學與不平等研究等領域的深厚基礎，並順應本系於計算社會科學領域的策略性發展方向。

The MSoDA Entrance Scholarship Scheme aims to provide financial support to outstanding admittees who aspire to gain hands-on experience in working with real-world data and producing research outputs tailored to academic, policy, or professional audiences. Students who are interested in deepening their understanding of pressing social issues through sociological perspectives and advanced data analytical skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

MSoDA 入學獎學金計劃旨在為表現卓越的獲錄取學生提供經濟支援，協助他們透過處理真實世界數據，累積實務經驗，並產出切合學術、政策或專業領域需要的研究成果。本計劃鼓勵有志以社會學視角，結合進階數據分析技能，深入分析當前重要社會議題的學生申請。
