The Biosafety Level III (BSL-3) Laboratory at the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences is a highly specialised research laboratory that serves Principal Investigators' research needs working with infectious agents. It has special engineering and containment features that allow Principal Investigators to work safely with known or potential human pathogens classified as risk group 3 organisms or risk group 2 that require BSL3 practices. The facility consists of laboratory suites for in vitro experiments on risk group 2 or 3 agents / organisms, and animal laboratory suites for animal biosafety level III (ABSL-3) experiments.
Applicants should have/be (i) a Higher Diploma or a Higher Certificate, preferably a Bachelor's degree, in Biological Sciences or a related discipline; (ii) willing to learn new things, self-motivated, well organised, co-operative with a responsible work attitude; (iii) able to work independently; and (iv) good communication skills in Chinese and English. Practical experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
The appointee will work at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin. Duties include (a) assisting in the daily operations of the Core Laboratories and communal facilities of the Institute which will house about 50 research groups with over 500 members when in full-fledged operation; (b) assisting in the maintenance of the facility and its equipment; (c) housekeeping; (d) undertaking booking arrangement; and (e) performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor as appropriate.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
