This programme is the first full-time government-funded undergraduate programme in medical laboratory science in Hong Kong. Students undertake clinical attachments in medical laboratories in Hong Kong.
It is aimed for those technical staff working in the medical related laboratories to pursue a professional education in medical laboratory science. Holders of this Higher Certificate with relevant medical laboratory experience can apply to register under the Medical Laboratory Technologists (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Regulation 1990 to practice in medical laboratories of Hong Kong.
The first year will be devoted mainly to General Education and some fundamental scientific learning. From the second year onwards, students will be taught the principles and practice of the 4 major sub-specialties of Medical Laboratory Science: Anatomical & Cellular Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology & Transfusion Science, and Medical Microbiology & Virology. There will also be a clinical practicum at the end of the third year during which students will receive practical training in public and/or private hospitals medical laboratories.
It aims to enable students to keep up with the numerous advances in medical laboratory science. Special Features:
