The appointee will be responsible for ensuring the safe and healthy operations of CUHK's InnoHK Centres (the Centres), which are established in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP). This will be achieved through compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations, as well as adherence to the University's policies and best local and international practices. Duties include (a) implementing CUHK's Safety Policy and Laboratory / Research Safety guidelines in the Centres that cover researches on health, biomedicine, robotics and artificial intelligence; (b) conducting regular safety inspections for the Centres; (c) assisting the Centres in compiling inventories for hazardous substances; (d) liaising with the Facility Management or Health and Safety Office of HKSTP regarding ventilation and fire services provisions in the laboratories; (e) assisting in induction training, and organizing trainings / seminars to enhance laboratory safety awareness; (f) assisting in and advising on the handling of spillage of hazardous substances such as chemicals or biological agents, in the laboratories; (g) assisting in investigation and preparation of reports for laboratory accidents; and (h) performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor and the Director of University Safety. Working outside normal office hours may occasionally be required.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree / Higher Diploma in Science, Engineering, Health and Safety, or other related disciplines; (ii) at least 1 year' relevant work experience in occupational health and safety gained from academic institutions, scientific research laboratories and/or industrial undertakings; (iii) good knowledge in local regulations on health and safety, hazardous substances such as dangerous goods, radioactive substances and equipment, biological and chemical agents, clinical substances, etc.; (iv) excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and (v) proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). Having knowledge of and experience with the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the development of training materials will be highly preferred.
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
