The Laboratory Animal Services Centre (LASEC) is currently recruiting a Junior Research Assistant (JRA) to join the Transgenic, Cryogenic and Diagnostics Services team. The team is responsible to provide services such as cryopreservation, recovery and rederivation of mouse lines using a wide range of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs), facilitating the creation and management of genetically engineered mouse models for scientific research.

Applicants should have (i) a Diploma or above in Nursing, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Science or equivalent; (ii) at least one year of hands-on experience in animal handling and/or surgery; (iii) strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and attentiveness to details; and (iv) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Experience in performing mouse assisted reproduction techniques is an advantage but not necessary.

Duties include (a) performing housekeeping works and conducting maintenance of equipment to support laboratory daily operation; (b) providing assistance in performing mouse assisted reproductive technologies, including embryo / sperm cryopreservation, in-vitro fertilization, rederivation and embryo transfer surgical procedure; (c) preparing and ensuring the laboratory consumables and reagents are sufficient in a well-organised manner ; (d) maintaining good record of laboratory data, inventory and compiling requested documentation; and (e) performing other duties and ad hoc tasks as assigned. The appointee will report to a Technician in LASEC directly and training will be provided as appropriate.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
