Principal Teaching Fellow in Chinese Language Education (Chinese Language Centre)

The appointee will be required to (a) take a leadership role in scholarly activities and pedagogical innovations in relation to Chinese language education and Chinese language and/or literature by leading and organising teaching development projects, chairing or serving on teaching-related committees / panels, and by means of workshops, forums and conferences; (b) oversee Chinese language teaching in the Centre and maintain overall quality control for the curriculum planning, subject development and learning materials for subjects in fulfilling the language requirements of the 4-year curriculum; (c) develop and lead initiatives that enable and encourage the sharing and promotion of good teaching practice among peers; (d) take up a key role in management for the further development of the Centre's objectives; and (e) use Cantonese and/or Putonghua (preferably both) to teach Chinese subjects with different levels and genres for students from various disciplines including non-native speakers.

Applicants should have (a) a PhD or a professional doctorate degree in Chinese Language / Literature or Chinese Language Education; (b) at least ten years' experience in post-qualification Chinese Language teaching at tertiary level; (c) proven educational leadership in teaching innovation and significant contributions to improve teaching quality and promote a culture of good teaching at departmental level or beyond and other forms of contributions leading to system-wide impact; (d) proven track record in leading innovation in education, and/or proven track record in scholarship of teaching and learning as evidenced by teaching development grants or other funding obtained related to teaching and learning projects, and high-impact scholarly works or publications and educational research output; (e) proven track record in teaching excellence that creates deep and lasting impact on student learning and development; (f) outstanding contribution in programme / subject development leading to substantial enhancement in the quality of educational provision; and (g) an excellent command of written Chinese with proficiency in Cantonese and/or Putonghua (preferably both) (at least B2 level in Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi or equivalent).

Preference may be given to those with the ability to use English as a medium of instruction and as a working language.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment to the Principal Teaching Fellow post. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
