Senior Technical Officer / Technical Officer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Ref.: 508879) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should have a recognized Degree / Higher Diploma or equivalent in Chemistry or a related discipline with at least 2 years' relevant experience in Chemical Industry / Safety; good knowledge in computer software operation, and basic hardware (PC) setup; and not less than 2 years' relevant post-qualification work experience preferably in, but not restricted to the following areas :
- Microelectronics with experience in Chemistry, Materials Science or Science related subjects;
- Chemical safety and related laws;
- Vacuum equipment operation and maintenance, hardware construction, and machinery operation.
- Qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety are highly preferred such as ISO18001 knowledge and first-aid certification.
The appointee will assist in providing chemical safety advices to departments, managing the chemical stores, delivering and handling dangerous goods as well as hazardous materials, attending to chemical emergencies and accidents, conducting safety inspections, providing safety training and performing other duties as assigned. They should also have good communication skills, initiative, be self-confident and independent, and ready to work under pressure and meet deadlines. He/She may be required to work outside office hours. The appointee will provide comprehensive technical services for staff members in both teaching and research activities; manage laboratories and ensure its safety; purchase and repair equipment; prepare and maintain technical documentations; offer assistance to project students; and perform other duties as assigned. Applicants with more experience or qualifications may be considered for appointment as Senior Technical Officer.
