Applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. degree (for Postdoctoral Fellow(s)), OR an M.Phil. degree (for Research Assistant(s)) in Earth and atmospheric sciences, environmental science, ecology, hydrology, or related fields; (ii) a demonstrated research track record; (iii) experience in numerical modelling, multivariate statistical analysis, and/or biophysical remote sensing and model-data integration; and (iv) proficiency in a programming language (e.g., R, Python, Fortran). Familiarity with a high-performance Earth system, atmospheric or land surface model is preferred.
The appointee(s) will work on one of the following research topics : (1) Effects of different irrigation methods on dryland agriculture, climate and air quality in Northwest China; (2) Effects of different forest management approaches on wildfire occurrences and air quality in tropical forests; (3) Combined effects of ozone pollution and nitrogen deposition on Chinese forest primary productivity and water use.
For all the projects above, the successful applicant will be supervised by Dr. Amos Tai ( http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/sci/essc/tgabi/ ) in the Earth System Science Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. For Project #1, the applicant will also be jointly supervised by Dr. Jin Wu ( https://wu-jin.weebly.com ) in the School of Biological Science at The University of Hong Kong. For Project #2, the applicant will conduct collaborative work with Prof. Stephen Sitch ( https://stephensitch.wordpress.com ) from The University of Exeter via a joint CUHK-Exeter research centre ( https://www.iees.cuhk.edu.hk/cuhk-exeter-joint-centre-for-ensure/ ). For Project #3, the applicant will conduct collaborative work with Prof. Zhaozhong Feng ( https://yqy.nuist.edu.cn/2019/0701/c1872a139682/page.htm ) from the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years commencing September 2021, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
