The Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research invites committed frontline practitioners with expertise and work experience in various academic disciplines (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Science, and PSHE) and student support areas (discipline and guidance, career and life planning, life-wide learning etc.) to join the Quality School Improvement Project (QSIP) as School Development Officer(s) (SDO).

QSIP, founded in 1998, has been evolved from a single project to an organisation conducting multi-projects supported by various funding sources and providing self-financing professional support services to schools. QSIP endeavours to enhance the quality of education, enrich teacher professional development, and facilitate comprehensive school improvement through (i) assisting schools to develop an ever-going self-inquiry process with strong evidence-based knowledge and professional responsibilities; (ii) strengthening teachers' capacities through collaborative effort in promoting effective learning; (iii) advising, developing, and implementing appropriate and effective curricula, pedagogical changes and assessment strategies, as well as related teacher development programmes; and (iv) establishing professional networks at school-level and subject-department level. Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree with at least ten years' relevant experience in education, preferably in school management and leadership, curriculum development, and core subjects' expertise in primary and secondary education; OR a Bachelor's degree plus a postgraduate certificate/diploma/degree in Education with at least eight years' relevant experience. Those with less experience after obtaining the Bachelor's degree will be considered for appointment as School Development Officer(s) II (at least six years' experience) or Assistant School Development Officer(s) (less than six years' experience).

Applicants of SDO I should have solid experience in leading a departmental/functional group and rich pedagogical content knowledge to cater for learning diversity. Experience in facilitating school improvement at both school-level and department-level will be advantageous.

The appointee(s) will (a) provide school-based support for partner schools on a regular basis; (b) train the school community to internalise the processes of building vision, setting priorities and establishing a governance structure; (c) conduct action learning and lesson study; and (d) conceptualise experience and good practices in school improvement/ teaching and learning in forms of article, exemplar, publication material, tool kit, and report.

Appointment will initially be made on full-time / fractional-time / part-time contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
