Library Assistant II

The appointee will be first assigned to the User Services of the University Library, and will be responsible for (a) handling front-line enquiries, providing counter and roving services to users in a courteous, helpful and efficient manner, and referring as necessary to ensure that users can use the Library and its resources efficiently; (b) ensuring the Library collections are orderly and tidily displayed to enable effective use of the collections; (c) assisting in maintaining an orderly, pleasant and safe study environment for library users to use library facilities and resources comfortably; (d) assisting in providing clerical support to routine and ad hoc projects in an effective and efficient manner so as to ensure the smooth operation of the Department; (e) assisting in collating statistical and financial information accurately and in a timely manner in preparation for departmental reports; and (f) performing other duties as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings or on weekends/holidays will be required.
Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E / Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B, or at least Grade C in Syllabus A), OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, "Attained" or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iv) strong interpersonal skills and good customer service attitude; and (v) the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Relevant work experience in libraries and knowledge of Integrated Library System are preferred. Good knowledge of computer applications (including MS Word and Excel) and Chinese word-processing will be advantageous.
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
