Functional Manager (Contracts and Legal Support)

Applicants should have (i) practical and academic legal training, a Bachelor's degree in Law and preferably a higher degree, Juris Doctor, LLM or equivalent; (ii) at least seven years post-qualification experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and legal documents, preferably gained from law firm or in-house legal department; (iii) an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); (iv) ability to work independently with good interpersonal and communication skills; (v) strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify legal issues and exposure; (vi) the ability to work as a good team player who is responsible, detail-oriented and proactive; and (vii) high computer literacy in software applications including MS Word and Chinese word processing.
The appointee will (a) review, draft and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, particularly in relation to research collaboration, knowledge transfer, licensing and service contracts; (b) liaise and negotiate with internal and external clients to ensure that the drafting, negotiation and follow-up processes leading to execution of the documents are in compliance with the relevant rules and regulations; (c) provide professional legal advice in relation to general legal matters, devise appropriate strategies and manage disputes; and (d) perform ad hoc projects.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
