Library Assistant (Special Collections) in the University Libraries (Ref : 201801566) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement)
Applicants should possess 5 passes in HKCEE including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A / Level 2 from 2007), OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, OR a recognized certificate for library assistants OR a recognized certificate in the area of digital library / information centre management, preferably with some relevant library and counter services experience. They should be meticulous and have proficiency in spoken English, Cantonese and Putonghua; and basic knowledge of PC and software applications and bibliographic records of libraries. An enthusiastic, co-operative and service-oriented attitude is essential. Applicants with knowledge of copywriting would have an advantage. The appointee will perform counter duties, which include charging and discharging of library materials; supervising the use of restricted materials; answering general enquiries; assisting users to use microform machines, photocopiers and scanners; inputting and updating data for library records and databases; shelf-reading; promoting access to collections; supporting collection care and performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors. Shift duty on evenings, weekends and public holidays is required.
