(A) Library Assistant I (Education Library) (Ref : 201801295) (B) Library Assistant (Lending Services) (Ref : 201801296) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary and with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement)
For post (A), applicants should possess a recognized university degree OR a diploma in librarianship with relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in a supervisory position. They should have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), computer literacy and the ability to provide support in the use of computer hardware and software (e.g. presentation, word processing, statistical analysis and citation management). They should also be fully conversant with new technologies related to teaching and learning, self-motivated and strongly committed to public services. The appointee will provide information services to library users and research support to faculty; assist in conducting instructional sessions, orientation and library tours, creation of bibliographies, guides and web pages, and provide administrative support including preparation of staff duty rosters and statistical reports; oversee accounting tasks; liaise with internal and external departments; and participate in departmental projects. Shift duty is required. For post (B), applicants should possess 5 passes in HKCEE including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A / Level 2 from 2007), OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, OR a recognized certificate for library assistants OR a recognized certificate in the area of digital library / information centre management, and preferably with some relevant library and counter services experience. They should have proficiency in spoken English, Cantonese and Putonghua, excellent customer service skills and basic knowledge of PC and software applications. An enthusiastic, co-operative and service-oriented attitude is essential. The appointee will perform a wide range of Libraries' Lending Services duties including library membership and registration, circulation, patron assistance and enquiries, shelf management, collection of statistics, and security and patrol duties; and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors. Shift duty on evenings, weekends and public holidays is required.
