    Over the last two decades, the population explosion and rapid process of urbanism in China brings about environmental problems, associated with energy consumption and other pollution discharges. Sustainable development and improvement of urban environment have been urgently required.

    Under this background, facing challenge of environmental issues that emerging after tremendous urbanization process, the Master of Science Programme in Advanced Environmental Planning Technologies (MSc. APT), launched by Center for Housing Innovations (CHI), Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (HKIAPS), is to proffer innovative methodologies and thinking models to orchestrate the efficiency, livability and sustainability of urban habitat and environment in progress urban and rural development scientifically and quantitatively.

    The MSc. APT focuses on training students how to apply advanced and inter-disciplinary planning technologies, such as scientific simulation, urban remote sensing and spatial and temporal analysis, to deal with complex issues and challenges in urban and environmental planning, design and management. Students would be able to discover, evaluate, and analyze environmental problems facing China and other countries in Asia under the rapid urbanization process, and to respond with feasible solutions.
